"The Bodyguard" Remake in Development

American playwright Matthew López is set to write a remake of Warner Bros’ 1992 blockbuster "The Bodyguard".

The 1992 romantic movie starred Kevin Costner and late icon Whitney Houston, who passed away in 2012, and grossed $411M worldwide.

Mick Jackson directed the original movie from a script by Lawrence Kasdan.

The remake is inspired by the romantic blockbuster which followed a former Secret Service agent (Costner), who takes on the job of bodyguard an R&B singer (Houston).

"The Bodyguard" marked Houston’s big-screen debut.

The remake will be produced by Lawrence Kasdan of Kasdan Pictures, and Dan Lin, and Jonathan Eirich of Rideback, while Rideback’s Nick Reynolds will serve as executive producer.

Lin has been shepherding the project since 2011.
