Egyptian tennis player Mayar Sherif sits 50th in the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) rankings after winning the 2022 Liqui Moly Open title following her win over Bernarda Pera on Sunday.

The Egyptian players jumped from the 62nd spot to rank 50th with 1135 points to claim the best ranking in her career and also reach a record of becoming the first Egyptian player to claim this spot.

Sherif had a disappointing start to 2022 after being knocked out from the first round of the Australian Open, Qatar Open and Miami Open.

The 26-year-old, however, compensated for these losses by lifting her first trophy of the year, when she won the WTA 125 title in Marbella.

On Sunday, Sherif triumphed over American player Bernarda Pera in both sets (6-2, 6-4) to claim the 2022 Liqui Moly Open title.

It’s worth noting that Sherif has now been crowned Liqui Moly Open champion for the second year in a row after defeating Martina Trevisan last September.
