Hours ago, the Algerian President Abdel Majid Tebboune confirmed that Al-Wefaq government in Libya does not represent its people, and called on the Libyans to form a presidential council to represent them.

In an interview with "France 24" TV, the Algerian president warned that the situation in war-torn country might worsen and get to be like the Somali model.

"The situation in Libya might worsen and even transcend the Syrian model and I discussed this with President Macron and he said in Berlin that a return should be made to the Libyan public, to rebuild the state on the basis of popular legitimacy, and what we see today in Libya is the Syrian model," Tebboune said.

In a remarkable position, the Algerian president stressed that what is known as the "Al-Wefaq government (GNA)" is no longer "the legitimate government", and said that it was already passed by the developments.

He called on the various Libyan parties to "move to the final solution, which is the formation of a presidential council that will be a representative of the various Libyan regions and work to write a new constitution and arrange a presidential elections."

He stressed that "the Libyan tribes were wise, contrary to what many believe, and if they got overburdened, the Libyan tribes will defend themselves, which threatens the situation to move to the Somali scenario."

The Algerian President warned that Libya would turn into a haven for terrorists and receive  terrorists sent by parties involved in the conflict, pointing out in this regard, to the crimes committed by mercenaries against civilians in Libya.

Tebboune noted that his country's stance is close with France, Italy and other sides regarding the Libyan crisis, and stressed that "war is not a solution."

He denied that his country had presented any initiative to solve the Libyan crisis, and pointed out that Algeria had "pledged not to present any initiative that disrupts the Berlin initiative."

He expressed Algeria's readiness to host negotiations between the Libyan warring parties, and reiterated his welcome to every initiative aimed at finding a peaceful solution and ending the ongoing war in the eastern neighbor of Algeria.
