The death toll from the earthquake that struck eastern Taiwan on Wednesday has risen to 12, with two more bodies recovered, Taiwanese authorities announced on Friday. The earthquake, measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale, has also resulted in over 1,100 injuries, as rescue teams continue their efforts to locate dozens of missing individuals. According to China Global Television Network (CGTN), the region experienced more than 400 aftershocks following the initial quake.

In related news, the Philippine Overseas Labor Office reported today that a fourth Filipino national has been injured in the East Taiwan earthquake. ABS-CBN, a Philippine media outlet, cited the labor office stating that the Filipino woman sustained head injuries from falling debris and was transported to a hospital for treatment. The Philippine labor offices in Taipei, Taichung, and Kaohsiung remain vigilant and are prepared to offer assistance to Filipino workers in need.

This earthquake is the strongest to hit Taiwan in 25 years, initially claiming at least ten lives and injuring more than a thousand others. The Taiwanese authorities and international communities are rallying to support the ongoing search and rescue operations, highlighting the urgent need for emergency aid and recovery efforts in the aftermath of this devastating natural disaster.
