Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has cast doubt on the killing of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi by US forces.

"Why didn't they show us the body of Bin Laden? Why didn't they show us Al-Baghdadi's body?," Al Assad said in an exclusive interview to "Sputnik News Agency" on Sunday.

“It is just a fake story,” Assad continued. “Baghdadi was released by the Americans. He was prepared by them to play that role and we don't believe this recent story of killing him,”

Noteworthy, the US authorities have disposed the remains of killed ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi by burying them at sea, according to a Pentagon official.

Al Baghdadi died in a US raid in northwestern Syria three weeks ago, after igniting his suicide belt, killing himself, his two wives and 3 children.

The initial planning for the raid began last summer, as a commando unit of the Army Delta force began to develop training plans for a covert mission to kill or capture the ISIS leader, with enormous obstacles anticipated.

His hideout was deep inside al-Qaeda-controlled territory. The skies over this area are also under the control of Syria and Russia.

The US leadership canceled the operation at least two times at the last minute, according to the New York Times newspaper.
