The Syrian Ministry of Defense announced a full and comprehensive ceasefire on all fronts, following an agreement reached between Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
In an official statement issued on Sunday, the Ministry said the ceasefire aims to halt all military operations across areas of confrontation, paving the way for the opening of safe corridors to allow displaced civilians to return to their homes and for state institutions to resume their duties in serving citizens. The Ministry called on members of the Syrian Arab Army to act with the highest level of responsibility, stressing the need to protect civilians, safeguard property, and maintain security and stability.
The announcement came shortly after President al-Sharaa signed a formal agreement with the SDF, providing for an immediate and comprehensive cessation of hostilities and the full integration of SDF forces into Syrian state institutions. The agreement marks a significant shift in the country’s internal dynamics after years of conflict between Damascus and Kurdish-led forces.
Under the terms of the agreement, all SDF military formations will withdraw to areas east of the Euphrates River as a preliminary step toward redeployment. At the same time, the provinces of Deir Ezzor and Raqqa will be handed over administratively and militarily to the Syrian government without delay. This includes the transfer of all civil institutions and facilities, with immediate decisions issued to retain current employees within relevant state ministries.
The agreement also provides assurances that government authorities will not take punitive measures against SDF fighters or civilian administrative personnel in Deir Ezzor and Raqqa. In addition, all civilian institutions in Hasakah province will be integrated into the Syrian state’s administrative and institutional framework.
