Switzerland has announced a significant contribution of 10 million Swiss francs (nearly $11.2 million) to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
This funding aims to address the urgent humanitarian needs in Gaza, a region severely impacted by ongoing conflict and economic hardship.
The Swiss House of Representatives' Foreign Policy Committee confirmed the financial aid on Friday. This support responds to UNRWA's appeal for humanitarian assistance and is intended to cover critical needs through December.
The funding will provide essential services, including food, water, shelter, primary healthcare, and logistical support, as reported by the Palestinian news agency, WAFA.
UNRWA was established in 1949 to support Palestinian refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, the West Bank, and Gaza.
It provides education, healthcare, relief and social services, and emergency humanitarian assistance to over 5 million registered Palestinian refugees.
