The Swiss Parliament passed a law prohibiting the wearing of the “niqab” and any clothing that covers the face in public places, after 51% of the population supported that ban in a popular vote.
This came according to what Bloomberg reported on Thursday, as Parliament approved a penalty of one thousand Swiss francs ($1,100) for anyone who violates this ban.
This law was promoted by the conservative Swiss People's Party, while the agency notes that the country's Muslims criticized it during the discussions.
