On Saturday, the Public Health Agency of Sweden announced that the state detected the first case of the newly-mutated COVID-19 variant.

The person who tested positive had recently traveled to the country from the UK to the Sörmland region, Signe Mäkitalo, the region's infectious diseases doctor explained.

She added that this case is in isolation currently in accordance with Swedish guidelines, adding that the risk of the person infecting others was extremely low.

On the other hand, Sara Byfors, the head of the Public Health Agency of Sweden, asked everyone who has recently traveled from the UK should get tested, even if they have no COVID-19 symptoms.

Also, she called for everyone who visited the UK recently to isolate themselves following Sweden's medical guidelines.

It is worthy to mention that a number of countries around the world announced the detection of various new COVID-19 variant cases such as France, Lebanon, Germany, Spain, and Jordan.
