Abu Simbel Temple in Aswan witnessed today's dawn the marvelous phenomenon of the solar illumination of King Ramses II.

Abdel Moneim Saeed, director-general of Aswan and Nubia Antiquities Sector, revealed that a number of foreign tourists, Arabs, and Egyptian visitors flocked to the Abu Simbel temple and enjoyed watching this unique phenomenon, which takes place twice a year, on October 22 and February 22.

The sunlight penetrates sixty meters into the temple, lighting up the king’s face, the deities Amun-Re and Re-Hur-Akhty, leaving the God of Darkness Ptah in shadow.

Moreover,  Saeed said that the alignment phenomenon took place at around 5:52 am and lasted for nearly 20 minutes.

He asserted that all hygiene safety precautionary measures were taken to ensure the safety of visitors, including maintaining social distancing and wearing facemasks.
