Oran: Strong Earthquake Hits Algeria (Video)

An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale hit the Algerian state of Oran, which is hosting the Mediterranean Games.

The Research Center of Astronomy and Geophysics in Algeria said that "at around 17:20 (local time), an earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale was recorded in the western state of Oran.

It added, "The epicenter of the quake was located 12 km north of Kadil in the state."

Residents of old buildings in Oran left their homes during the quake, while others went watching parts of their buildings fall to the ground.

Algeria has a bad expense with quakes. In 2003, At least 2,162 people are now known to have been killed and almost 9,000 injured during the tremor, while 2,000 people are reported to be missing.

Meantime, Oran hosts the activities of the 19th edition of the Mediterranean Games "Oran 2022", and no casualties has been reported so far.
