On Monday, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg confirmed that he intends to leave his post after his term ends in the fall of 2023.
"I made it clear that I have no other plans," Stoltenberg said at the "Democracy Summit" in Copenhagen in response to a journalist's question about it.
He also expressed confidence that the Allies would be able to find an "excellent successor" to replace him.
NATO spokeswoman Oana Lungescu told DPA on February 12 that Stoltenberg did not intend to extend his term, which ends in September 2023.
His term was extended three times and he served as Secretary-General for nearly nine years.
