Spectre of Terrorism Threatens Christmas Markets in Berlin

The spectre of terrorism spoils the joy of the Germans at Christmas .. The terrorist incident - which Berlin suffered three years ago in the Christmas market – raises the fears among the Germans every year as the German police evacuated one of the Christmas markets in Berlin’s Breitscheidplatz square. Police said they suspected two men, so they evacuated the market.

The German police evacuated the Christmas market yesterday evening, Saturday, at Breitscheidplatz square, after receiving a notification of a suspicious foreign body. Later, the police said they had evacuated the Christmas market in Berlin's Breitscheidplatz square on suspicion of two men.

A police spokeswoman said that two men had attracted officers' attention because of their behaviour but were not arrested.

The spokeswoman also refused to confirm what was reported in "Bild" and "Berlinet Zeitung" newspapers about the arrest of the two men. The Berliner Zeitung newspaper reported that the two people were classified as "dangerous Islamist perpetrators ".

On his part, the spokesman for the German railway company "Deutsche Bahn" announced that, the trains will not stop at two stations close to Breitscheidplatz Square due to the operation of the police in Berlin.

Police said on Twitter that a concert event at the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church had also been broken off as part of the same operation,.. The police added that all people at the market had left "quietly", and the police are searching the area.
