The Spanish government called on Israel on Sunday to immediately end its military operations in the Gaza Strip. Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares told RTVE that "Israel must cease its military operations," stressing that the continued bombing and blockade constitute a daily violation of international humanitarian law and human rights.
Albares affirmed that Spain believes "the time has come to end this 'inhumane blockade' that has caused famine on the people of Gaza." He also stressed that "Hamas must immediately and unconditionally release all hostages," according to the Spanish newspaper El Mundo.
The Spanish minister concluded his remarks by emphasizing that the ultimate goal of Spain and the international community must be a lasting and just peace that allows for the establishment of a realistic and viable Palestinian state living side by side in security and prosperity with Israel. He said, "The time has come to achieve true peace in the Middle East."
A wave of demonstrations demanding an immediate end to the Israeli aggression on Gaza continues in several Spanish cities, while public anger is growing over the mounting death toll, which has exceeded 66,000 since the start of the war.
