Somalia to Hold Presidential, Parliamentary Elections Next Nov.

Somalia announced today that an agreement has been reached between the federal government and the regional leaders regarding the preparation for holding presidential and parliamentary elections in the country next November.

The Somali National News Agency reported that this agreement was reached at the conclusion of the consultative meeting held in Mogadishu between the leaders of the federal state headed by President Muhammad Abdullah Farmajo and 5 provincial leaders.

The agreement included the appointment of an electoral commission at the federal level in cooperation with an electoral commission for each province, while that election plans would start by next November.

The Somali President has appointed Mohamed Hussein Roble as the new Prime Minister in the federal government, and recommended to form a government capable of leading the country to the elections, and exerting great efforts to enhance security gains and rebuild and develop the armed forces.
