Social media users and gamers in Egypt started a campaign on Twitter, calling for access to unlimited internet.

People posted tweets and pictures, highlighting the need to cancel the limited Internet packages that restrict the freedom to use the internet in the Arab state.

Hashtag Unlimated_Internet_In_Egypt has been trending in the past few days as users expressed their anger on social media, urging the authorities to take a step and respond to their call.

On her part, actress Somaya Elkhashab joined the campaign, affirming that Egypt has international gamers who can make a major breakthrough in the gaming world but they need the "Unlimited Internet" option.

In another tweet, she indicated that young gamers cannot afford a gaming PC but they are able to make content on YouTube that will bring them a good income. The actress called on parents to encourage and support their children and not underestimate their talent.

In the same vein, Ahmed Abouzaid, influencer and content creator, voiced his hopes that this preference would be available in Egypt soon.

Last February, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly reviewed a report from Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat on the global Ookla Speedtest index for measuring internet speeds for January.

Talaat indicated that the index revealed that Egypt topped the African continent in the average fixed internet speeds, after it ranked 40th out of 43 countries, with average speeds of 35.67 Mb/s according to the new median method, recently adopted by Ookla.
