Snapchat announced the start of applying value added tax (VAT) on application services in Egypt by 14%, as of June 22.

According to an email sent by the app to users, Snapchat said that “in compliance with local laws in Egypt, starting from June 23, we will start imposing 14% VAT on electronic services.”

This comes a few days after Google announced the start of the application of value-added tax on paid services to customers in Egypt starting from July 1.

When billing accounts are set up, accounts are automatically set up on a “business” type for new accounts for users residing in North America, Brazil, or Europe, the Middle East and Africa (except Russia), including Switzerland, Norway and Liechtenstein, Google said on its blog.
