Manchester United are preparing to begin talks with Michael Carrick over the possibility of him continuing as the club’s head coach beyond his interim spell, according to Sky Sports.
Carrick was appointed on a temporary basis until the end of the season, but he has impressed by guiding United to qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
Reports suggest the club’s management is now leaning toward entering formal negotiations to keep him in charge for the upcoming season.
United believe that confirming a manager early would give them an advantage in the transfer market as they look to strengthen the squad.
Since taking over in January following the departure of Ruben Amorim, Carrick has overseen a strong run of results, lifting the team from seventh place to third in the Premier League.
Despite speculation, Carrick recently said he remains unsure about his future and that the decision is not in his hands, while expressing pride in the team’s achievements and focus on finishing the season strongly.
