Sisi to “Le Figaro”: Egyptian Army Ready to Protect National Security

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi affirmed, on Wednesday, that Egypt's policy is based on dialogue and establishing excellent relations with its neighbors, adding: “Turkey, like other countries in the region, must ensure respect for the rules of international law and the law of the sea.”

The President demanded, during an interview with the French newspaper "Le Figaro", Turkey not to act unilaterally at the expense of peace and security in the region.

Regarding the possibility of a military confrontation with Turkey in Libya, Sisi said: “Egypt is working to reach a comprehensive political solution to settle this crisis and ensure the stability of this country, which shares 1,200 km borders with Egypt.” “It is a must to end the foreign interventions that threaten the stability of this country as a result of the transfer of mercenaries and weapons to extremist militias," President Sisi stressed.

He continued: "Egypt will never be the side that initiates the attack, but in return, our armed forces are always ready to defend Egypt and protect its national security against of any form of threats."

On the reason for launching Mediterranean Gas Forum for Egypt, Israel, Cyprus, Greece, Jordan, the Palestinian Authority and Italy.

Sisi said: "This forum is held under an Egyptian initiative, as it is a regional intergovernmental organization responsible for ensuring compliance with international law in the sustainable and environmental management of gas resources for each member."

He added: "France should join it soon."
