President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, the current chairman of the African Union (AU), returned to Cairo on Thursday evening following his visit to Russia, during which he and Russian President Vladimir Putin presided over the first Russian-African summit held in Sochi and witnessed signing a number of agreements between the two sides.

President El Sisi extended invitation to Russian counterpart Putin and African leaders to attend the Aswan Forum for Peace and Sustainable Development scheduled for December.

Speaking at the opening session of the first Russia-Africa Economic Forum in Sochi, Sisi said that the African continent opens its doors to work with all partners.

He added that Russia is one of the most partners in Africa, adding that the mutual cooperation between them witnessed huge boom since the middle of last century.

He pointed out that Russia showed complete solidarity with many African countries in their struggle against colonialism, in addition to providing them with material, logistical and moral aid.

El-Sisi explained that the Aswan Forum will be open to all people who have intellectual and scientific ideas, pointing out that it will also largely reflect the African continent and its cultures.

On his part, the Russian president welcomed El Sisi’s invitation, describing it as a good idea.

He also expressed his support for the Egyptian initiative to enhance fostering development in the African continent.
