President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received, on Sunday, a delegation from the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), currently visiting Egypt as the second stop of the promotional tour for the 2026 World Cup, scheduled to be held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
The delegation included Fabio Cannavaro, the former Italian national team player and 2006 FIFA World Player of the Year, along with Javier Ignacio Ceppi Perdyvski, Director at FIFA Headquarters in Zurich, Sebastian Ferrieu, Director of the World Cup Tour, Alexandros Kavassilas, Vice President of Coca-Cola for Nigeria and North Africa, and Hanna Haddad, General Manager of Coca-Cola in Egypt and Sudan. The meeting was also attended by Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Minister of Youth and Sports, and Eng. Hany Abo Rida, President of the Egyptian Football Association.
Mohamed El-Shennawy, Official Presidential Spokesperson stated that this visit is part of the World Cup Trophy Tour, a historic global journey spanning 30 countries and 75 stops, carrying the original FIFA World Cup Trophy. This tour also celebrates the 20th anniversary of the "Trophy Tour" partnership between FIFA and Coca-Cola as a global platform to promote the FIFA World Cup 2026.
At the outset of the meeting, Sisi welcomed the delegation, emphasizing that choosing Egypt as the second stop reflects its prominent position on the global sports map and provides a significant opportunity to boost sports tourism, spread athletic culture among the youth, and support the state's vision of expanding sports participation and public engagement with major international events.
For its part, FIFA delegation expressed their appreciation for meeting the President, praising Egypt's advanced sports infrastructure and its extensive organizational expertise in hosting regional and international championships.
In conclusion, President Sisi expressed his hope for the success of the upcoming World Cup, which will be the largest in terms of participating teams, wishing the Egyptian national team positive results and aspiring for Egypt to host the FIFA World Cup in the future.
