Sisi Orders to Lift Obstacles Eni May Face in Egypt

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received Sunday Claudio Descalzi, CEO of the Italian Eni Petroleum Company, in the presence of Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, Engineer Tariq Al-Mulla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, in addition to a number of senior officials of the Italian company.

“The meeting came within the framework of following up the activities of the Italian company in the field of exploration and production in the gas and petroleum sector in Egypt,” said Egyptian Presidency Spokesman Bassam Rady.

The President praised the process of fruitful cooperation with the Italian company, Eni, expressing his support for the company’s continued expansion in its investment activities in Egypt in the fields of exploration and production, taking into account its meticulous commitment to implementing its projects as well as the interest the state attaches to the development of this vital sector.

“President Sisi called for continuing intensive cooperation with Eni, and to remove any obstacles that may face its business,” Rady added.

On his part, Eni’s CEO expressed his sincere appreciation and gratitude to Sisi for Egypt's stance in support of Italy during the difficult period it has gone through since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Descalzi lauded, in this context, the successful precautionary measures taken by the Egyptian state at the sites of various oil and gas production projects that enabled Egypt to continue working in the fields and production capacity.

He stressed that Egypt is an important partner for the Italian company’s activity worldwide, and then looking forward to the continued development of the company's activity in Egypt in the fields of exploration and production, especially in the western region and also the Red Sea.
