Sisi-Macron Stress Need to End Chaos of Terrorist Militias in Libya

On Saturday, the Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi received a telephone call from his French counterpart Emanuel Macron, according to the official spokesman for the Presidency Bassm Rady.

He stated that the two presidents discussed the latest developments of a number of international and regional files, foremost of which is the situation in Libya.

On his part, El-Sisi affirmed Egypt's steadfast strategic stance towards the Libyan crisis represented in restructuring the institutions of the Libyan national state, ending the state of chaos caused by the spread of criminal groups and terrorist militias, giving top priority to combating terrorism, achieving stability and security, and putting an end to the illegal foreign interference in the Libyan affairs.

He added that such foreign interference constitutes a threat to the security and stability of the entire Middle East and Mediterranean region.

Meanwhile, the French President affirmed his keenness to exchange views with President El-Sisi in this regard in the light of the pivotal role being played by Egypt in the region.

The two Presidents agreed on the need to intensify coordination in the coming period and exert more efforts to end the Libyan crisis by reaching a political solution that paves the way for the return of security and stability in this sisterly country, especially by supporting the relevant international endeavors as well as implementing the resolutions of the Berlin Conference, as well as rejecting any external interference in Libya.

The Spokesman added that Sisi and Macron agreed to enhance bilateral relations, in light of the growing level of these relations during the recent period, as President Macron stressed France's keenness to develop joint cooperation with Egypt in various fields.

It is noteworthy that El-Sisi and his Cypriot counterpart, Nicos Anastasiades, discussed various regional issues and cooperation between the two nations both on a bilateral level or as part of the tripartite framework with Greece.

The Friday phone call featured a discussion on energy security within the context of the East Mediterranean Gas Forum.

The Cypriot leader hailed the crucial role Egypt plays in maintaining the region’s stability, noting similar sentiments from the European Union in regards to Egypt’s hard work in combating terrorism, alongside praise for Egypt’s experience in fighting illegal development.

The talks also touched on recent developments in Libya.

Rady explained that the two leaders agreed to intensify cooperation regarding Libya, especially through support of relevant international endeavors, implementing the Berlin conference’s resolutions and rejecting all external inference in this regard.
