Sisi Inaugurates 2nd Phase of Greenhouses Project: Bassam Rady

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi will inaugurate 1300 greenhouses over 10.000 feddans as part of the second phase of the Mohamed Naguib Sector for Protected Agriculture.

“This project’s production is equivalent to about one million feddans of traditional agriculture,” said Presidential Spokesperson Bassam Rady on Saturday.

Rady noted that this project is deemed as the largest project of its kind in the field of greenhouses in the Middle East.

“It aims at contributing to food security maintenance and bridging the gap between production and consumption,” he added.

Moreover, this mega project is expected to maximize the utilization of available land for agricultural activities while rationalizing usage of water in irrigation.

On Feb. 8, 2018, Sisi inaugurated the first phase of a project to establish greenhouses on an area of 100,000 feddans at Mohamed Naguib military base in el-Hamam area of Alexandria’s North Coast.

In Dec., 2018, Sisi officially inaugurated a major greenhouse project in 10th of Ramadan city, Sharqiya governorate. It is consists of 7,100 agricultural greenhouses over 34,000 feddans of land.

During the inauguration, the president said that the state had started two years ago and that it was considered the second biggest agricultural greenhouse project in the world.

The greenhouse project is being implemented by the National Company for Protective Cultivations and the National Service Projects Organization of the Egyptian military.

According to the CEO of the National Company for Protective Cultivations, Major General Mohamed Abdel-Hai, the project provides not less than 75,000 job opportunities.

He stated that the company was currently setting up 7,100 greenhouses, adding that this phase is set to produce about 1.5 million tonnes of vegetables per year.
