President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met today with Arsenio Dominguez, Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), in the presence of Vice Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, Lieutenant General Kamel El-Wazir.

According to the Presidential Spokesman, the meeting reaffirmed the commitment of both sides to ongoing cooperation in the IMO’s areas of work.

This is particularly significant given Egypt’s robust capabilities in maritime shipping and transport, with the Suez Canal and extensive coastlines along both the Mediterranean and Red Seas.

Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, the Presidential Spokesman, stated that discussions also focused on enhancing collaboration in areas such as environmental protection, climate change, and renewable and clean energy.

The meeting reviewed Egypt’s efforts to become a global hub for green hydrogen production, contributing to the IMO’s goals of transitioning to alternative fuels for shipping.

Both sides explored ways to enhance the organization's role in transferring international expertise in this field, as well as facilitating investment in green hydrogen infrastructure and developing the necessary facilities at ports and major maritime routes in developing countries.
