During a meeting on Sunday, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi followed up on the outcomes of the experiment of cultivating short-staple cotton in Egypt in reclaimed lands, according to Presidency Spokesperson Bassam Rady.
Prime Minister Mostafa Madoubly, Minister of Public Business Sector Hisham Tawfik, and Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Al-Sayed El-Quseir took part in the meeting.
In this regard, Sisi gave directives to the concerned ministries to prepare an accurate and integrated assessment of the experiment from all aspects so as to study the feasibility of expanding its cultivation in the future.
He also reviewed the outcomes of the experiment of cultivating short-staple cotton in East Owainat in the South Valley as well as efforts to provide seeds and harvesting equipment.
During the meeting, the results of the soil, water, and climate analyses in the region that match the cultivation of this type of cotton, which is the most in-demand and most used in the labor market, were also discussed. This requires fulfilling the needs of the factories from it, which helps establish national industries and contributes to saving hard currency by reducing imports of short-staple cotton.
