Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held a telephone call on Saturday with Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, to check on his health following a recent medical procedure.
During the call, President El-Sisi expressed his sincere wishes for Pope Tawadros’s full and speedy recovery and reassured himself about the stability of his condition after undergoing a minor kidney surgery. The President conveyed his appreciation for the Pope’s role and wished him continued health and well-being.
Pope Tawadros, in turn, reassured the President about his condition and expressed his deep gratitude for the President’s kind sentiments and thoughtful concern.
The Coptic Orthodox Church had earlier issued an official statement confirming that the procedure was successfully performed without any complications as part of routine medical examinations. The statement noted that Pope Tawadros is currently spending several days at a hospital in Austria for post-operation medical follow-up, in accordance with doctors’ recommendations.
Following his discharge from the hospital, Pope Tawadros is expected to move to the Monastery of Saint Anthony in Austria to complete a short recovery period before returning to Egypt to resume his pastoral and ecclesiastical duties.
