On Wednesday, Hollywood stars took to Washington D.C. for the inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

During Inauguration Day, two of Hollywood's biggest stars, Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez performed the National Anthem and the Star-Spangled Banner, respectively, after Biden was sworn in as the 46th President of the United States.

And as expected, both women took the stage for the historical affair in breathtakingly beautiful looks worthy of the occasion.

Lady Gaga's Inauguration Look Is Symbolic

During the ceremony, Gaga took to the stage to perform the national anthem in a head-turning ball gown. The custom-made Schiaparelli Haute Couture look was designed by Daniel Roseberry.

The outfit is made up of a navy, cashmere fitted jacket with a washed red silk faille skirt. The look was topped off with a gilded dove of peace brooch, which many have joked looks similar to the golden badge Katniss Everdeen wears in the Hunger Games. She tied together her ensemble with a braided crown and bright red lip.

Jennifer Lopez White Chanel Inauguration Day Outfit

On the other hand, JLo stepped on stage in a white tweed coat from Chanel's fall/winter 2020/2021 Ready-to-Wear collection, teamed with white sequin wide-leg pants and a white silk blouse from the French fashion house's fall/winter 2019/2020 Ready-to-Wear collection.

She accessorized the look with pearl-embellished earrings, bracelets, and belts also from Chanel.

Despite them coming from different seasons, the pieces fit together to form a stunning outfit in a hue that has a long history in politics.

Lopez’s all-white outfit was a nod to the suffragettes, Harris and Hillary Clinton also wore purple, the other official color of the U.S. women’s suffrage movement, which was a decades-long fight for the right for women to vote.

In the world of politicians, wearing the colors of the suffrage movement is a fashion statement frequently used to nod to history. In 2019, for instance, female lawmakers such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Nancy Pelosi, and Deb Haaland dressed in white as a statement of solidarity at the 2019 State of the Union, while awaiting President Trump’s remarks.

During the 2020 presidential election season, both Lopez and Gaga throw their support behind Joe Biden. The "In the Morning" hitmaker and her fiance, Alex Rodriguez, officially endorsing Biden last October. Gaga also campaigned for Biden and encouraged people to vote.
