Shoukry stresses Egypt’s stance in supporting political solution to Yemeni crisis

Egypt’s foreign minister Sameh Shoukry received today, Sunday, the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Martin Griffiths.

Shoukry affirmed Egypt's firm stance in supporting all efforts aimed at reaching a comprehensive political solution to the Yemeni crisis that meets the aspirations of the brotherly Yemeni people in achieving security, stability and development, and ends its humanitarian crisis, Ahmed Hafez, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said.

Hafez added that the Minister of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed the Egyptian firm stance in supporting the current legitimacy, the unity, the independence and territorial integrity of the Yemeni state, stressing that the security and stability of Yemen is of utmost importance to the Egyptian national security and the security of the Arab region in general.

Shoukry also stressed Egypt's rejection and condemnation of the ongoing Houthi attacks on Saudi territorials, pointing out to Egypt's support for Riyadh in all the measures it takes to defend its national security, as well as Egypt's support and welcoming of the Saudi initiative to solve the Yemeni crisis.

On his part, Griffiths briefed the Foreign Minister on the latest developments in the Yemeni scene and his vision for the future of the situation in Yemen, in addition to his current efforts to achieve a ceasefire and resume the political process for reaching a comprehensive and sustainable settlement to the Yemeni crisis, appreciating Egypt's role in supporting the political solution and providing continuous support For the Yemeni people.

In the same context, Shoukry expressed Egypt's support for the efforts of the UN envoy to Yemen and his efforts to push the path of a political solution. The two parties agreed to continue consultations in the next stage for the sake of Yemen and the aspirations of its brotherly people.
