Shoukry, Russian counterpart discuss Palestinian issue

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov on the sidelines of their participation in the activities of the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting, which is being held in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro.

Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that the Minister of Foreign Affairs praised the distinguished cooperation and coordination between the two countries in various international forums, and the mutual support for the international nominations of the two countries for international positions and jobs. He addressed the existing aspects of cooperation between the two countries in various fields, pointing out that the most important cooperation project currently is the Dabaa nuclear station project. 

The official spokesman revealed that shoukry pointed out to Egypt’s aspiration once again to reach a political settlement of the Ukrainian crisis.

Ambassador Abu Zeid added that the meeting touched on the latest developments related to a number of issues and files at the regional and international levels, where the two ministers exchanged points of view regarding the Palestinian issue and the ongoing Israeli aggression against Gaza, as well as the course of events in Yemen and the negative impact on the security and safety of maritime navigation in addition to the raging crisis in Sudan, as well as ways to resolve the situation in Libya, and efforts to address the Syrian file.

For his part, the Russian Foreign Minister stressed the great importance of the established partnership and cooperation relations between Cairo and Moscow over many decades, pointing out to the importance of continuing high-level consultation between the two sides in a way that achieves the mutual interest of the peoples of the two friendly countries, and at the same time ensures work to resolve crises and support stability in the region.
