Shoukry receives phone call from UN Secretary-General

 Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sameh Shukri, received a phone call from Mr. Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, regarding coordination and consultation on the situation in Gaza, Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said on Wednesday. 

The Foreign Ministry spokesman explained that Shoukry and the Secretary-General of the United Nations discussed the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip, and the diplomatic efforts seeking to reach a ceasefire in order to preserve the lives of Palestinian civilians, and in a way that provides the opportunity for the delivery of humanitarian and relief aid without any obstacles. .

Ambassador Abu Zeid added that Shoukry discussed Egyptian political movements and contacts with international parties to push towards achieving a ceasefire, stressing the necessity of building on the international consensus embodied in the recent United Nations General Assembly resolution calling for implementing an immediate humanitarian truce in Gaza, ensuring the protection of civilians, and rejecting attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians.

In the same context, Shoukry appreciated the balanced positions adopted by the Secretary-General on the path to containing the repercussions of the crisis and putting an end to it, expressing appreciation for the role played by the United Nations under his wise leadership in dealing with the current crisis. 

For his part, the Secretary-General of the United Nations stressed the need to end the tragic situation in Gaza and establish a ceasefire, appreciating the important role played by Egypt in resolving this crisis and providing and delivering aid to the residents of the Strip, in addition to its pivotal role in supporting the pillars of security and stability in the region.
