Shoukry: Egypt's National Sovereignty, Non-Interference Must Be Respected

On Tuesday, Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sameh Shoukry, said during his speech before the plenary session of the House of Representatives (HoR) that Egypt's relations with the United States of America (USA) are strategic and strong, and we are keen on this relationship.

He added that Egypt looks for laying foundations, of the dual relations between the two countries.

He affirmed that such relations base on non-interference in internal affairs as Egypt is a sovereign country capable of managing its affairs.

The minister stressed that common interests govern these relations with the USA, and we deal with the administration of US President Joe Biden with all openness and appreciation.

He pointed out that there is a persity in Egyptian relations with Russia, China, and Europe.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs went on to say that Egypt does not accept interference in its internal affairs.

Shoukry said that any attempts to intervene have been confronted, and there are communication channels with countries to clarify the extent of Egypt's interest in human rights.

The minister emphasized that everyone sympathizes with Syria as a state and people and that Egypt welcomes Syrians in Egypt, and this is something we all cherish.

Regarding the demands of the members of the HoR for the resuming of relations with Syria, Shoukry said that it is a matter of some complexity, and we hope that Syria will return to its Arab surroundings.

The statements of the minister came during his response to the lawmakers' criticism of the United States of America and its interference in Egypt's internal affairs under the pretext of human rights.

He added that Egypt adheres to the universal principles of human rights, and this is what makes us subject to periodic review at the United Nations to put forward the constitutional obligations in the field of human rights care.

He explained that Egypt rejects insulting religion, and what President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has taken confirms Egypt's policy and respect for religions, and the feelings of Muslims must be taken into consideration.

The minister assured that the Al-Ula, in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, a statement issued by the recent Gulf summit and the joint commitments it contained reveals a change in the nature of relations between the Gulf states, with the importance of Qatar fulfilling the conditions set out in the statement in good faith.
