Shoukry: Egypt Attaches Great Importance to Promoting Women's Rights

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met with the executive director of UN Women, , Dr. Sima Buhous, within the framework of her visit to Egypt, which coincides with the launch of the 16-day campaign to combat all forms of violence against women in Egypt under the slogan "Be".

Ahmed Hafez, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that Shoukry congratulated the UN official on assuming her position as the first Arab woman in this position, stressing the importance that Egypt attaches to protecting and promoting women's rights and empowerment in various fields, to combat all forms of violence and harmful practices against them.

 

Shoukry also pointed out to the unprecedented leap that Egypt has achieved in this field at various levels, and the launch of many initiatives aimed at supporting women and their rights; Among them are the President’s initiatives to support women’s health.

 

He reviewed the Egyptian government’s efforts to empower women in various sectors of the state, as women now are assuming posts in the judiciary.

Hafez added that the UN official appreciated the Egyptian efforts to empower women in various fields, noting that she had chosen Egypt as her first destination, especially in light of Egypt's pioneering role in promoting women's rights.

 

She also praised Egypt's active role in international and regional forums in support of women's issues and rights.

Moreover, She expressed the aspiration for more cooperation between The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women and the Egyptian government during the coming period
