Shehab, Esmat Receive Mohamed Rabie Nasser Award

The Scientific Committee of the Mohamed Rabie Nasser Award announced 2019 winners in three fields, including medical, agricultural and applied sciences with a total value exceeding EGP 400,000.

Mofeed Shehab, professor of international Law and former Egyptian Minister of Higher Education, received the Pioneer Award for his efforts in serving the country, while Gamal Esmat, Professor of Endemic Diseases at Cairo University received the Medical Sciences Award. Also, Director of the Center of Scientific Excellence Mohamed Ahmed Ahmed won the award in the field of Agricultural Science.

The award ceremony was attended by a number of former ministers, including Kamal Gad Sharoubim, Governor of Dakahlia, Alaa Abdel Halim, Governor of Qalyubia, Seddik Abdel Salam Tawfik, Secretary-General of the Council of Private and National Universities, as well as Presidents of Monofiya, Tanta, Suez, Sadat and Port Said Universities, parliamentary deputies, and heads of the Supreme Council of Universities.

Also, Yasser Sabri, a teacher in the Department of Electronics Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, received the Young Researchers Award.

Up to 119 applicants from public and private universities and multiple research centers have applied for the Mohamed Rabie Award.

On his part, Mohamed Rabie Nasser, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Delta University said that the award encourages distinguished researchers and in recognition of their role in the service and contribution to science towards the realization of Egypt's vision 2030.

Moreover, Yehia El-Mashad, President Of Delta University said that the university is interested in the research process and modern applied research in areas that serve humanity.

He added that the university not only has bachelor's and master's degrees but, also offers postgraduate diplomas for all engineering graduates.

Esmat said that science and scientific research is the basis of the renaissance, adding that without the existence of scientific research in the field of virus C in Egypt, the country wouldn't have been able to eliminate the disease.

He explained that 4 million patients were treated during the presidential initiative "100 million health" to eliminate the virus and non-communicable diseases, which received worldwide recognition as the biggest initiative ever implemented by one country alone.

It is worth mentioning that the evaluation committees of the award included former Minister of Health Mohamed Awad Tag Eldin, Head of the Medical Sector, Supreme Council of Universities Hussein Khaled, Chairperson of the National Quality and Assurance and Development Center for Cairo University's school of medicine Nadia Badrawi, President of Sadat University Ahmed Bayoumi, President of Mansoura University Ahmed Amin Hamza, as well as President of Kafr El-Sheikh University Majid Al-Qamari, and former Minister of Industry Ibrahim Fawzy.
