in February, the United Nations adopted the World Youth Forum (WYF) as an international platform, in recognition of the contributions of the three editions of the forum in discussing contemporary issues of young people and their role in achieving the 2030 sustainable development agenda.
The Permanent Mission of Egypt to the United Nations at Geneva managed to pass a resolution in the International Human Rights Council at its fortieth session entitled “Youth and Human Rights”.
The Egyptian delegation presented in front of the Human Rights Council how the World Youth Forum was established in 2017 as a platform to support youth ideas providing ample and adequate space to express and exchange their opinions without barriers and to come up with recommendations for decision-makers.
On February 16, the UNCSocD approved the resolution, which was sponsored by Egypt and submitted by Senegal, Cape Verde, Portugal and Kazakhstan, including a special reference to the three editions of the WYF that was launched in Sharm el-Sheikh in 2017 as an international platform to discuss youth issues.
Egypt’s Permanent Representative to the UN Mohamed Idris stated that youths’ issues were currently a top priority on the UN agenda.
“It also comes as a recognition to the contributions of the three editions of the forum which tackled contemporary issues related to youth and their role in achieving the 2030 sustainable development agenda,” Idris added.
It should be noted that the Egyptian mission was able to include in the resolution the special reference to the WYF, which came with the support of many delegations of African countries, in a way that contributes to promoting the results of the forum and consolidating its position on the international map, at a time witnessing the preparation for holding the annual youth forum by the UNCSocD.
