Shampoo…. Is it Good for Your Hair?

It’s become widely known that applying shampoo on your hair every day is really harmful but for some people every day showers are essential whether after a daily workout or a long day at school/work.

Washing your hair with only water doesn’t really leave your hair smelling good and fresh. So, many people just keep on using shampoo regardless of the risks.

But shampoos are really bad and not just for your hair but your overall health due to the chemicals used in their manufacturing like:

Sodium Laurel Sulfate (SLS) that decreases new hair growth, may harm the eyes, irritates the skin and may also be carcinogenic. Besides, the presence SLS in the hair worsens the hair follicles and thus, increases scalp problems.

Sodium Chloride (Table Salt) which is known to be non-toxic but when added to the SLS containing products causes the scalp to be dry and itchy.

Polyethylene Glycol (PEG) is a shampoo thickener that dries the hair of moisture. Preservatives that may affect hormonal balance and increase hair loss. Alcohols that are known for drying the hair.

Therefore, we should all use natural products because they are safe to use, gentler on the hair and body, they improve hair growth and prevent drying and greasiness, and are environment friendly.

It’s also great to use oils whether it be before or after the shower like: Lavender essential oil that generates faster hair growth, it’s also antimicrobial and antibacterial and thus, improves scalp health.

Peppermint essential oil that increases the circulation thus, promoting hair growth. Coconut oil that keeps the hair soft and shiny, and stimulates its growth.

Finally, make sure to choose products with known non-synthetic ingredients, basically if you can’t read the ingredients don’t buy it.
