A Spanish court dismissed an appeal from Colombian singer Shakira as it saw "sufficient evidence" to send her to stand trial over alleged tax fraud, a court document showed on Thursday.

Prosecutors claimed that the "Hips Don't Lie" singer failed to pay up to 14.5 million euros ($15.54 million) in tax on income earned between 2012 and 2014.

Shakira was living in the Spanish northern region of Catalonia during that period, according to media reports.

The court still did not officially send her to stand trial and set a date.

The 45-year-old pop star's legal team pointed out in a statement on Thursday they will keep defending her case with solid legal arguments.

"Shakira's conduct on tax matters has always been impeccable in all the countries she had to pay taxes and she has trusted and followed faithfully the recommendations of the best specialists and advisers," the statement read.
