It was the first time the annual ceremony take place outside the United States. It was held in Seville, Spain.
Shakira captured song of the year and pop song of the year, in addition to the Best Urban/Fusion Performances with Karol G.
The Colombian mega star dedicated her win to her children, saying: "I have promised them I will be happy."
She also referred to her "tough moments."
She highlighted: "I also want to share this with my Spanish audience, who has been there with me through the good and bad times.
"In those hard and tough moments I've experienced here in this country, I have loved so much but at no moment has stopped giving me love and support"
