The football world is in mourning following the death of Rocco Commisso, who passed away at the age of 76 after a long period of medical treatment.
Best known as the president and owner of Fiorentina, Commisso’s death has prompted an outpouring of tributes from clubs, institutions, colleagues, and figures across the global game.
As a mark of respect, the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has announced that a minute of silence will be observed before all matches organized by the Professional Leagues and the Professional Women’s Serie A Division this weekend, including any rescheduled fixtures.
FIGC president Gabriele Gravina paid tribute to Commisso, saying: “We stand with the Commisso family and Fiorentina in this moment of profound pain.
Rocco Commisso left an indelible mark on Italian football and will always be remembered for his enthusiasm, passion, and forward-looking vision.”
Commisso, an Italian-American businessman, took over Fiorentina in 2019 and became a central figure in the club’s revival, investing heavily in infrastructure, youth development, and long-term stability.
His leadership and outspoken defense of Italian football earned him widespread respect beyond Florence.
Messages of condolence have continued to arrive from clubs, former players, league officials, and colleagues, all highlighting his commitment to the sport and his deep emotional connection to Fiorentina.
Fiorentina, along with other teams across Italy and Europe, are expected to honour Commisso’s memory in the coming days, as football bids farewell to one of its most influential and passionate figures.
