Italy Stresses Commitment to Achieve Stability in Libya

Italian Deputy Foreign Minister Marina Sereni affirmed her country's commitment to achieve stability in Libya, according to what Afrigatenews published on Saturday.

Sereni stressed, in radio statements, that the Italian government's policy regarding Libya, has not changed, and they still are committed to achieve stability in the country, referring to the Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio’s words.

Sereni also talked about liberating the Italian fishermen in Benghazi, mentioning that, during last months, they had been in constant contact with the families of the fishermen, the Mayor of Mazara and the ship-owners, asserting that they felt the strong popular participation in this matter.

The Italian official indicated that they had spoken to all interlocutors with intelligence and diplomacy, so that the fishermen can be released in order to do everything possible to achieve this goal and within the framework of the law.

“Our sailors are free,” Di Maio said in a post on Facebook shortly after he and Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte flew to Benghazi.

Di Maio stated that the process of stabilizing Libya had  begun, pointing that it had a long way to go, on order to reach the final goal.

On the other hand, the commander of the Libyan National Army Khalifa Haftar, received, Thursday, in  Benghazi, Conte, the Italian Foreign Minister along with a number of Italian officials.

During this meeting, they discussed the recent developments, related to the political dialogue and its processes, in addition to the latest events, concerning the Libyan state file.

Haftar also hailed the role of the Italian government, and appreciated its exerted efforts in finding ways to solve the Libyan crisis.
