The Senegal national team secured qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup following a convincing 4-0 victory over Mauritania on Tuesday evening, in the final round of the African qualifiers.
Sadio Mané starred for Senegal, scoring two goals, while Ndaye and Diallo each added one, with goals coming in the 45th, 48th, 64th, and 85th minutes.
With this result, Senegal topped their group with 24 points, two points ahead of DR Congo.
Meanwhile, DR Congo defeated Senegal 1-0 in a separate match, securing second place in the group with 22 points and qualifying for the continental playoff for World Cup entry.
According to an official statement from the Senegalese Football Federation on X (formerly Twitter), goalkeeper Mendy suffered a serious chest injury during the previous match against South Sudan.
He received treatment from the medical staff and completed the game, participating in training on Sunday and Monday without issue. However, it was later announced that he would officially miss Senegal’s match against Mauritania.
