The Court of Arbitration for Sport has confirmed receiving an official appeal from the Senegalese Football Federation against both the Confederation of African Football and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation over the controversial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final.
The appeal challenges a decision issued by CAF on March 17, 2026, which ruled that Senegal national football team had forfeited the final, awarding the title to Morocco national football team with a 3–0 result.
Filed on March 25, the Senegalese federation is seeking to overturn the ruling and be declared champions.
The appeal also includes a request to suspend procedural deadlines until the full reasoning behind CAF’s decision is released, as the initial announcement reportedly lacked detailed justification.
CAS stated that an independent arbitration panel will be appointed to review the case, after which a procedural timeline will be established.
Under current regulations, the appellant has 20 days to submit a detailed legal brief, with the opposing parties granted a similar period to respond.
Due to Senegal’s request to pause proceedings, no clear schedule has yet been set for hearings or a final decision.
CAS Director General Matthieu Reeb emphasized that the court is equipped to handle such disputes through independent arbitrators, adding that efforts will be made to ensure a swift process while maintaining full fairness.
The court concluded by noting that the statement is an informational summary, with further updates to follow as the case progresses, while proceedings remain confidential until a final verdict is reached.
