CAIRO, March 24 (SEE) – A trilateral summit embraced Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, King Abdullah II of Jordan and the Prime Minister of Iraq Adel Abdul-Mahdi in Cairo on Sunday.

Presidential Spokesperson, Bassam Rady, said that the talks dealt with reviewing the means of enhancing the tripartite cooperation in various fields within the framework of the historical and distinguished relations that unite the three countries.

After concluding the tripartite talks among Egypt, Jordan and Iraq, a joint statement was issues, which reads as follows:

  • A tripartite Egyptian-Jordanian-Iraqi summit was held in Cairo on March 24, 2019. It included President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi of the Arab Republic of Egypt, His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Iraq, Adil Abdul Mahdi.
  • The summit dealt with coordination and integration among the three countries.

  • The leaders valued the deep historical relations between their countries, stressing the importance of working to enhance the level of coordination among them.
  • The leaders reviewed the latest developments in the region, stressing their determination to cooperate and coordinate strategically among themselves and with the rest of their Arab brothers to restore stability in the region.
  • They reaffirm support the Palestinian people's access to all their legitimate rights, including the establishment of a state on its national soil with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the resolutions of international community.

    In addition, they also discussed the crises in Syria, Libya, Yemen and elsewhere in the region and spoke of the need to hold the next Arab summit in Tunisia with the aim of restoring solidarity and promoting joint action within the framework of the League of Arab States.

  • The three leaders stressed the importance of combating terrorism in all its forms and confronting all those who support terrorism by financing or arming or providing safe havens and media platforms
  • Sisi and King Abdullah II stressed their full support for the Iraqi efforts to complete the reconstruction and the return of the displaced, and ensure the rights and rights of its citizens violated by terrorist group.

  • The leaders stressed the importance of intensive and coordinated action to strengthen institutions of modern national states in the Arab region, as the real guarantee against the dangers of fragmentation, terrorism and sectarian pisions that contradict the spirit of citizenship and democratic institutions, protect the independence of Arab countries and prevent interference in their internal affairs.
  • The leaders discussed a number of ideas to enhance economic integration and cooperation among the three countries, including the promotion and development of joint industrial zones, cooperation in energy, infrastructure, reconstruction and other sectors of development cooperation.
  • Leaders agreed on the importance of meeting periodically to coordinate positions and policies among the three countries in order to realize the interests of their peoples in the stability and economic prosperity and achieve common goals through cooperation with brotherly and friendly countries and building balanced international relations.
  • The leaders also decided to set up a working group to follow up the work of this summit, under the auspices of the three leaders, to coordinate economic, developmental, political, security and cultural cooperation and agreed to resume the meeting at a date and place agreed between them.
