The third day of the 2026 FIFA World Cup delivered dramatic moments, historic achievements, and standout individual performances as Scotland celebrated a long-awaited victory, Morocco continued to prove their credentials, and Australia secured an impressive win over Türkiye.

Scotland finally ended a 36-year wait for a World Cup victory with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Haiti.

A deflected first-half strike from captain John McGinn proved enough to secure all three points and give the Tartan Army their first World Cup triumph since 1990.

Despite dominating early stages, Scotland struggled to maintain control and were made to work for the result by a determined Haitian side.

Manager Steve Clarke acknowledged the importance of the victory, although Scotland will need improved performances against Morocco and Brazil if they hope to reach the knockout stages for the first time in their history.

In one of the most anticipated matches of the group stage, Morocco and Brazil played out an entertaining 1-1 draw.

The Atlas Lions took the lead through Ismael Saibari, who produced a stunning lob after racing onto a perfectly weighted pass from Brahim Diaz.

Brazil responded just 11 minutes later through Vinicius Junior, who silenced critics with a brilliant individual goal.

The Real Madrid star cut inside from the byline before firing past goalkeeper Yassine Bounou to level the score.

Although the second half failed to match the intensity of the opening period, both sides demonstrated why they are considered among the strongest teams in the tournament.

Group B remains wide open after Qatar secured a dramatic 1-1 draw against Switzerland.

Breel Embolo gave the Swiss the lead from the penalty spot in the first half, but Switzerland failed to capitalize on numerous chances despite registering 27 shots throughout the match.

Qatar punished that wastefulness deep into stoppage time when pressure from Boualem Khoukhi forced Swiss defender Miro Muheim into an own goal.

The late equalizer leaves all four teams in the group level after the opening round of fixtures and keeps qualification hopes alive for everyone.

Australia also made a strong start to their campaign with a disciplined 2-0 victory over Türkiye.

The Socceroos absorbed pressure for much of the contest before young winger Nestory Irankunda produced a moment of brilliance to break the deadlock.

The former Bayern Munich prospect burst forward on the counterattack, cut inside, and fired a powerful shot into the bottom corner to give Australia the lead.

Connor Metcalfe sealed the victory late on with another goal from a fast break as Australia claimed a valuable three points.

With several heavyweight nations already showing their quality and emerging stars beginning to make their mark, the tournament continues to gather momentum heading into the next round of group-stage matches.
