Greek sources confirmed to Sada El Balad that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi will head to Greece early November, in an official visit to Athens.

In August, President Sisi received a phone call from Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, according to Presidency Spokesperson Bassam Rady.

Rady stated that the call dealt with exchanging congratulations on the occasion of the signing of the agreement defining the maritime borders between Egypt and Greece in Cairo.

On August 6, the two countries’ foreign ministers signed a maritime demarcation deal which reflected the distinction of the bilateral relations between the two countries and the availability of strong political will to advance it at various levels.

On Wednesday, the Cypriot capital, Nicosia, will host the eighth tripartite summit between Cyprus, Greece, and Egypt.

According to a statement by the Cyprus News Agency, the Deputy Spokesman for the Cypriot government, Panagiotis Sentonas, said that among the issues that will be discussed during the summit is the Cyprus problem, the illegal activities carried out by Turkey in Famagusta and the situation in the eastern Mediterranean.

According to Sentonas, the tripartite summit, which will be held within the framework of deepening regional cooperation with neighboring countries, will also focus on the results and progress of the tripartite mechanism, cooperation in the field of energy, the issue of migration, and combating terrorism, as well as the situation regarding the novel coronavirus epidemic.

“A joint statement after the summit ends will be released, indicating the three countries' common positions on a range of issues, challenges, and policies,” he added.

It is noteworthy that Cyprus has been pided since 1974 when Turkish forces invaded and occupied the northern third of the island. Turkey has ignored many UN resolutions calling for the withdrawal of Turkish forces and respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Cyprus.
