On Thursday, Saudi Arabia hailed the decision to extend the two-month national pause in Yemen in honour of the forthcoming Eid al-Adha celebration.

Military representatives from the Government of Yemen, the Houthi militias supported by Iran, and the Joint Forces Command of the Coalition have agreed to take steps to increase trust and reaffirm their commitment to the Christmas truce.

The UN's Hans Grundberg was commended by Saudi Arabia's Foreign Ministry for his efforts in supporting the cease-fire in line with the Saudi proposal, which was announced in March 2021 with the goal of resolving the Yemeni conflict and finding a comprehensive political solution.

It emphasized the Kingdom's steadfast dedication to ensuring the security and stability of Yemen.

According to the ministry, the Saudi proposal seeks to achieve a comprehensive and long-lasting ceasefire so that the political process between the Houthis and the legitimate government can begin.

It emphasized the necessity for the parties to uphold the existing cease-fire and hasten the reopening of the routes leading to the province of Taiz, which is under Houthi siege.
