Saudi Arabia and Germany have signed a landmark memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish the “Saudi-German Green Hydrogen Bridge,” a strategic initiative aimed at producing and exporting green hydrogen and green ammonia from Saudi Arabia to Europe.
The agreement was signed between Saudi-based ACWA Power and Germany’s SEFE (Securing Energy for Europe GmbH), marking a significant step in the bilateral energy partnership between the two nations.
The signing ceremony followed a high-level meeting in Riyadh on Sunday evening between Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman and German State Secretary for Finance Jörg Kukies.
According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the discussions focused on enhancing energy cooperation, particularly in the field of clean hydrogen development.
This collaboration builds on a previous MoU signed in 2021, which laid the groundwork for joint efforts in green energy technologies and hydrogen production.
Following the meeting, the Saudi energy minister and the German finance minister witnessed the official signing of the MoU between ACWA Power and SEFE, reinforcing Saudi Arabia’s ambitions to become a global leader in hydrogen production while supporting Germany’s energy transition goals.
