Al Ittihad secured a dramatic 1-0 victory over Al Wahda on Tuesday evening at Al Inma Stadium in Jeddah, booking their place in the quarter finals of the AFC Champions League Elite.
The match ended goalless after regular time, forcing both teams into extra time. Just moments before the final whistle, the referee awarded a penalty to Al Ittihad in the 120+7th minute.
Fabinho calmly converted the spot kick to score the decisive goal and send his team through.
With this victory, Al Ittihad will face FC Machida Zelvia in the quarterfinals, while Al Wahda exits the competition.
Al Ittihad reached the knockout stage after finishing fourth in the West region group stage with 15 points, earned from five wins and three defeats, including a loss against the same opponent.
Meanwhile, Al Wahda qualified in fifth place with 14 points, recording four wins, two draws, and two losses.
Despite an unconvincing start to their campaign, Al Ittihad regained momentum with a series of strong performances, including three consecutive wins.
They will now aim to continue their progress in the tournament as they look ahead to the next round.
