Paris Saint-Germain confirmed on Sunday evening that Portuguese midfielder Renato Sanches has left the club to join Greek side Panathinaikos on loan until the end of the current season.

Sanches has struggled to secure a place in Luis Enrique’s squad and fell out of the Spanish coach’s plans, prompting PSG to send him out on loan once again. The deal will keep him in Greece until June 2026, after which he is expected to return to the Parc des Princes.

This is the second consecutive loan spell for the 26-year-old, who spent last season at former club Benfica, making 21 appearances across all competitions and scoring just once. PSG wished him success in his new chapter.

The midfielder began his career at Benfica’s academy before breaking into the first team in October 2015. A year later, he joined Bayern Munich, where he featured in 53 games, registering two goals and three assists, and collecting nine trophies with the Bavarian giants.

Sanches also had a loan stint with Swansea City in the 2017–18 season before moving to Lille in 2019. His performances in France eventually earned him a move to PSG in 2022.
