The Libyan House of Representatives Speaker, Aguila Saleh, said that each Libyan region will name its representative in the upcoming Presidential Council, explaining that it is not permissible for the head of the Presidency Council and the head of government to be from one region.

“We rely on the Cairo Declaration initiative stating that Sirte host headquarters of the interim authority until elections are held,” Saleh said in press statements on Thursday.

The speaker told Al-Arabiya TV, that the Libyan National Army(LNA) is ready to defend the country, stressing that “Once the new authority is established, the Libyan armed forces will merge and the mercenaries will be expelled.”

In another regard, Sky News Channel quoted sources in the Libyan House of Representatives confirming that there is an agreement that the Libyan Central Bank will be under international supervision or under the control of a neutral party, and oil revenues will be transferred to it.

In June, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received Saleh and Libyan National Army Commander Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar in Cairo and announced an initiative to end the conflict in the neighbouring country.

The Cairo Declaration emphasized the unity, integrity, and independence of the Libyan lands, respecting all international efforts, initiatives, and relevant Security Council resolutions, and accordingly, the commitment of all parties to the ceasefire from June 8, 2020.

The initiative is mainly based on the outcomes of the Berlin Summit, which resulted in a comprehensive political solution that includes clear implementation steps (political, security, and economic tracks) and the respect for human rights and international human rights law.
